Australian Case Studies

Presented by: Lara Schuhlz

In this session, we will delve into some of the hardest cases we have worked on in our practice in Australia. One aspect of our focus in our clinic is a Trauma Recovery Program. Within this program we work with some of the most disadvantaged patients in our area. One of the biggest issues we repeatedly come across is, patients being misdiagnosed with either BPD, MDD, ADHD amongst others instead of a diagnosis of Trauma. The main thing we do differently from other clinicians in our field is, we seek to understand how the brain is functioning and how that has a further impact on the patients lives we work with. In this session I will take you through case studies of patients whose trauma profiles we’re so complex that no-one had been able to assist in healing for these individuals. I will talk of the disappointment of patients once they had started to heal and feel better and how they have felt as though they had wasted so many years of their lives because of misdiagnosis and a lack of understanding and care from practitioners around their mental health illness. We work with returned soldiers, ordinary men and women from diverse backgrounds who all share one common goal, and that is to feel and heal. We will look at how Mu plays a role in Trauma and trauma treatment and how we are able to work with patients who are quite literally hanging on by a thread.
